A Bit About Us...
Hello, I’m Russ, I’m from Pittsburgh and settled in Northern Virginia after briefly living in Florida; my wife Gena and I have two children; a son and a daughter. Gena and I together are Russell Marino Photography. Our children are 14 months apart (ouch!) and that is how my love of photography rekindled, which I’ve discovered is not uncommon.
Gena is from Michigan…
She is an Audiologist and loves to help her patients improve their quality of life through better hearing and fantastic care. Gena is a people person at heart, an extrovert, she really enjoys being with others
and working with people. She loves to cook – not just cook, but prepare gourmet meals. Cooking with wine is her specialty and sometimes she puts the wine in the food too! When time allows, she enjoys a TV show or reading a good book in bed and loves to travel as well. She is very crafty and enjoys our children’s school projects. Gena lovers her Apple devices!
Since I was young I’ve been interested in art/design and technology/computers and I work in the IT industry. I’ve also discovered that photography is a blend of the two. Graphic Design/Fine Art was a consideration as a college major; I’ve always held a strong interest in the arts.
The considerable amount of drawing I did years ago help me appreciate the importance of composition and lighting in photography. I’ve drawn many black and white portraits and being fascinated that the most subtle change in shading would change the look and feel of the drawing, especially a person’s appearance, expression or mood.
I love peanut butter or anything with peanut butter and my favorite flavor of ice cream is coffee and if I have a dessert after a meal, I really enjoy having it with black coffee. Music has always been a major part of my life (briefly playing the drums when I was young) and 80s music brings back wonderful memories of yesteryear; I especially enjoy the music of Phil Collins – his music including Genesis, I’ve listened to almost incessantly for many years. When I listen to music it creates images in my mind.
Even though I like my time alone, I love to people watch and imagine what their lives are like and enjoy reading biographies of people’s lives. I enjoy crowds as people do fascinate me and I believe that is why I prefer photographing people, portraits and events with the added dimension – or human element – where an emotion can be forever experienced, a moment can be captured that has a unique quality and context to it that will not occur again in the same way.
Looking over photos from an event can bring emotions or feelings to us that weren’t necessarily experienced during the actual event – almost reliving it, if you will; I find this to be the mystical afterglow of photography.
Gena and I find that customer service and the customer experience is scarce in today’s marketplace, hence, we place your experience at the forefront of our relationship. Sincerity is such an alluring quality and is really appreciated when experienced and we tend to keep it in our relations.
Please do not hesitate to contact Gena and me if you’re interested in talking with us or asking questions or want to book a session with us. We are here for you and can be reached at 571 331-7419 or firstname.lastname@example.org; We look forward to talking with you, building a relationship and hopefully working together.
